About the formats
Image/Picture file formats
Joint Photographic Experts Group
JPEG is a widespread raster image format which utilizes lossy compression, i.e. parts of the image's details are lost. Typically, it is used for storing digital images from smartphones and digital cameras.

AOMedia (Alliance for Open Media)
The AV1 Image File Format (AVIF) is a new format which promises better compression and smaller file sizes than JPEG, PNG, WebP, and all other image formats on the web. Based on the generic HEIF image format, it supports alpha transparency, HDR, lossy and lossless compression. It is already being used by Netflix and Microsoft.
Support in Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (like Microsoft Edge and Opera) has landed in late August 2020. Firefox can display AVIF images from version 93, released in October 2021. Meanwhile, Apple's Safari still does not support AVIF.
MConverter's encoder uses a Constant Rate Factor (CRF) of 10, so that there is no noticeable reduction in image quality while keeping the file size as small as possible.
