How to convert MPO to PPM?

You can convert MPO to PPM with MConverter in three easy steps:

Alternatively, click on the Browse box to select files with your device's file picker, or copy and paste an MPO file by pressing Ctrl+V (or ⌘+V on Mac).

You can also configure automatic file downloads during the conversion process or in the settings menu. When enabled, each PPM file is downloaded as soon as its conversion is complete, without waiting for the others to finish.

If supported by your device, you'll see a Share icon, allowing you to directly send converted files to other apps.

Format description

The MPO (Multi Picture Object) file format is used to store multiple images in one file. It is often associated with 3D images and is used primarily for stereoscopic photography, where two slightly offset images are combined to create a 3D effect when viewed with compatible devices like 3D-capable TVs, monitors, consoles, or glasses.

Typically, each MPO file contains two separate JPG images – one for the left eye and another for the right eye. These images are stored side by side within the MPO file, along with metadata that describes their arrangement. When the MPO file is viewed on a compatible device, the left and right images are separated and displayed to each eye, creating the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality.

Starting in June 2025, MConverter can now extract the images for both eyes, including any additional image previews contained in the MPO file. To view MPO files on Windows or iPhone, you can convert them to JPG or PNG. These files can then be opened with the built-in image viewer.

Format description

PPM is a Portable Pixel Map image file with support for 24-bit colors. The format is rarely used for non-temporary storage of large images, because PPM does not use compression. This makes it less efficient when compared to other bitmap image formats, such as BMP.
