Common questions about converting PUB to PDF
Now that Microsoft Publisher is gone, how can I view PUB files?
Converting them to PDF gives you copies that you can access without Publisher. MConverter helps you do that in bulk, so you don't have to convert each PUB file individually. The resulting PDFs can be opened by any PDF reader or even your web browser.
Why should I convert my old Publisher files to PDF?
Converting your legacy PUB files to PDF offers several benefits, especially now that Microsoft Publisher has reached its End of Life. PDF is a universally supported format, so your newsletters and flyers remain accessible across all devices and operating systems, without requiring specialized software. Because Microsoft retired Publisher in October 2026, leaving files in its proprietary PUB format risks permanent loss of access, whereas converting them to PDF future-proofs your documents for long-term compatibility.
Will the layout and formatting be preserved in the PDF?
Yes, MConverter tries to preserve the original layout, fonts, colors and other details as much as possible. If you notice any discrepancies, please let us know so we can improve. You can leave feedback after the conversion finishes.
Is converting PUBs to PDF safe with MConverter?
For cloud-based conversions, MConverter encrypts your PUB files using the latest technologies, such as TLS 1.3 and HSTS. They are transmitted securely to our cloud service provider’s EU-based data center, which holds internationally recognized ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications. There, each conversion is processed in a separate, isolated environment. This technique further reduces the risk of a malicious file impacting other conversions. Four hours after the conversion is complete, your files are automatically deleted from MConverter’s systems. You can also permanently delete your PUBs and other converted files immediately after finishing the conversion with the trash icon. When converting on-device, your files never leave your device. MConverter processes them locally. Note: on-device conversions are not yet available for some hardware-intensive formats. For both cloud and on-device conversions, your files are never scanned or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Join thousands who have trusted MConverter to process over 20,868,003 files so far.
Can I convert PUB to PDF in bulk?
Yes, MConverter supports batch converting of multiple PUBs to PDFs simultaneously. You can even drag and drop folders containing PUBs to convert to PDF. Pasting PUB files and folders copied in the clipboard also works: use Ctrl+V.
Can I convert a PUB file to PDF, if its size is 10 GB?
Yes, with MConverter Max you can convert big PUBs, up to 10 gigabytes each. The free version lets you convert files up to 100 MB. If you need to convert PUB files over 100 megabytes, try MConverter Max. If your files aren’t over 1 GB, then you can use MConverter Plus instead, as it’s cheaper.
How long does it take to convert PUB to PDF?
For most documents, the wait may be a minute or so. However, MConverter also supports converting larger documents, meaning that it could take a while (up to over an hour, for example).

Format description
PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format. It was created for presenting documents with formatted text, graphics, and other form elements in a way that is independent of the user's operating system and software. It is based on the PostScript language. PDF files can be password-protected and encrypted. PDFs can also be edited by converting them to a Microsoft Office Word format like DOCX, then back to PDF.
