Format description
PDF/A (from PDF/Archive) is an ISO-standardized version of the Portable Document Format (PDF) specialized for digital preservation of electronic documents. It ensures that the document will look the same in the future as it does now by embedding all necessary components, such as fonts, color profiles, and images, within the file. Unlike regular PDFs, PDF/A prohibits features that might hinder long-term archiving, such as encryption and external content references, ensuring that the document remains self-contained and fully accessible over time. This standard is widely used in legal, governmental, and archival settings where document longevity and integrity are crucial.
