SAMI is short for Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange. Developed in the late 90s by Microsoft, SMI or SAMI files were an accessibility initiative by the company. Such files contain subtitles with formatting, extended from HTML. In other words, subtitle text in the SAMI format can be bolded, italicized, underlined, colored, and more. SAMI files are used along with video files as closed captions.

Format description
Abbreviation for SubRip Subtitles. SRT files contain subtitles which can be played together with videos. An SRT file stores information about when each subtitle text should get displayed and then removed, along with a sequential index. Subtitles in the SRT format cannot have formatting, unlike some other subtitle formats, such as SMI (SAMI).
Note: SRT files themselves do not contain the video. They are only used in conjunction with a video.
