About the formats
Archive/Compression file formats
Jean-loup Gailly, Mark Adler
GZ is a file compressed with the standard gzip (GNU zip) compression algorithm. It is frequently used on UNIX and Linux systems.
Archive/Compression file formats
ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
An ISO file is a disc image of an optical disc, such as a CD or DVD. It is a type of non-compressed archive file which contains everything that is written on a disc, the file system included. If you cannot mount an ISO file, you can convert it to another archive format, such as ZIP, which can be opened more easily.
